Gerard Schalkwijk

Gerard Schalkwijk is one of the top fanciers on the marathon races in The Netherlands. The name Schalkwijk is a very familiar name in the Dutch pigeonsport for decades. The mentor of Gerard Schalkwijk was his father Ries who made his son the succesful pigeon fancier he is today. While father Ries made a mark on the program races, Gerard concentrated on the marathon races already in the early days.

The current strain on the loft of Gerard Schalkwijk is a mix of Cor de Heijde via the Belgian topper Frans Bungeneers , Jelle Jellema and Aarden via Family van Houten and some toppers of other good marathon fanciers. But the pigeons of Cor de Heijde/Bungeneers, Jellema and van Houten are the key of the great successes and victories of the last few years! Gerard does not have many pigeons as he wants the pigeon sport remain manageable. In addition to his work as owner of Travipharma (health products that are mainly aimed at the pigeon sport), he is very serious about his pigeons. So you won’t find lofts full of pigeons in the backyard of the Schalkwijk family. It is the quality that matters most!
