PIERRE “MISTER HATTRICK” WITTENBERG (HERPEN)

Pierre Wittenberg, a passionate marathon fancier with an impressive track record, lives in Herpen, Brabant.  In 2023, 2024 and 2025 Pierre won the title of 1st National  Marathon Champion Netherlands, an exceptional achievement that NOBODY will ever match !! Herpen, a village east of Oss, is thus the home of the best marathon fancier in the Netherlands of the last 3 years. In 2024, Pierre also finished second in the designated National marathon championship.

The national victories at Bergerac (sector 1) in 2018 and 2020 paved the way for a period of continuous success. The crowning glory of his work followed with the three consecutive national marathon titles !

Pierre maintains a strict selection process and deliberately works with a limited number of pigeons. ‘After my national title in 2023, I thought it couldn’t get any better and expected a quieter season,’ he says. “My goal was really just to become champion at the Fondvrienden Brabant-Limburg, where the top five nominated pigeons per flight count. I hadn’t managed to do that in 2023”. However, things turned out differently. From the first race from Bergerac, the pigeons were in good form and as the season progressed, it became increasingly exciting. The nest pigeons in particular performed excellently, with almost all of them winning three prizes from three times basketing. Becoming national champion three years in a row is no coincidence, but the result of years of top performances.

Barcelona 2025

This year, Pierre basketed three pigeons for Barcelona 1146 km. His second nominated, NL22-4013265, arrived first at 10:43:53 and achieved an impressive 9th national against 4,515 pigeons, with a speed of 930.57 m/min. Not much later, at 11:46:02, his first nominated pigeon, NL20-4097969, followed, good for 51st National. The third pigeon, NL21-4002640, arrived at 14:30:37 and ranked 362th National. In the division 3 against 348 pigeons, Pierre occupied the 1-3-27 places in Barcelona. An impressive result that once again underlines how strong Pierre’s colony is. A 100% score and Pierre’s name was known to all Barcelona racers and followers worldwide !

MISTER PIET” as the progenitor of the colony

The foundation of the current marathon colony was laid with pigeons from renowned fanciers such as Bart Giebels, Peter van den Eijnden, Nico van de Hurk (Arjan Beens), Jan van Hooft, Winnie van Oijen, Jeroen van Heumen and Piet Arts. The name Van den Eijnden in particular will still ring a bell with older fanciers. In the 1980’s, he was among the absolute best, and his pigeons formed the foundation of successful lofts such as A.P. Overwater and Verhagen-Van de Steen.

However, it is mainly one pigeon that currently leaves its mark on the colony: “MISTER PIET” (NL15-1854442), a grey cock from Lambert Snoeks. His father, NL09-533 (18th National Ace Agen ZLU 3yrs 2013-2015), was a grey pigeon and was bred from Jos Thoné x “93-duif” (23rd Nat. Soustons) daughter of “Jonge Baron” x “Vervuurtje” from Gebr. Van Santvoort. The mother, NL12-775, descends from a Jan van Engelen pigeon (Vanbruane x Van Engelen line) x ‘06-697’ from Gebr. Van Santvoort.

Pierre has a soft spot for unusual colours and asked Lambert to breed a grey pigeon from this line especially for him. As a tribute to his late father-in-law Piet Verstraaten, the young cock was named “MISTER PIET“. Because he was a late youngster in 2015, he was used in both afternoon releases and ZLU flights from 2017 onwards. He never missed and delivered an impressive 8 out of 8. Highlight: 1st National Bergerac sector 1 and 2nd National Bergerac whole of the Netherlands. Since he moved to the breedingloft of Pierre, “MISTER PIET” has become the number one breeder and together with a red hen from Pierre’s basic lines, the “STAMKOPPEL I” !

STAMKOPPEL I” are the parents of a.o. (only in the last two years !! Unbelievebale !)
