His top hen “Bont 760” was present at her home base in Zeeland at 5:21 am, which could make a dream come true. At that moment she was 1st National Barcelona in the Netherlands and she kept this lead easily, she was 27 m/m faster than the 2nd pigeon in the Netherlands!
Walter’s 2nd pigeon, which was clocked at 8:52 am, was the father of this top hen: 1st and 48th National in a tough edition of Barcelona !!
“Bont 760” won already 165 National Barcelona against 4,832 pigeons the year before, and her father is an inbred product to stock father “Superkweker 823” and is a grandson of “Crack 61”. The mother of “Bont 760” is a daughter of “116”, this super breeding hen is mother and grandmother of 4 x 1st National and was usually the permanent partner of stock father “Superkweker 823”.
1st National Barcelona in 2023 “Bont 760”
For Walter this is the 3rd national victory of his career, and of course this is the highlight and ultimate goal of his colony. The winner is NL 20-2024760 “Bont 760”, a hen that competed in 2 afternoon releases as a yearling, missed her price but came home very fresh, something Walter really likes to see: a year later she won 165th National from Barcelona in 2022 and she was Walter’s 5th pigeon. And one year later she wins gold in the Netherlands on Barcelona! Her father won the 48th National Barcelona ’23 and father & daughter are assured of a place in the breeding loft. They represent a very unique family of super Barcelona flyers …
By the way, this is the 4th National victory thanks to the blood of super breeder “Superkweker 823” !
Breeding base
In 1992 Walter switched to the Marathon flights and the first successes come with the pigeons of Jan Ernest and Janssens Hausoul. Next to these the strain is built with pigeons from Paul & Luc Bramel and Rekker-Westra. But especially the old strain (Ernest x Janssens-Hausoul) is doing amazingly well, and in the current top pigeons we notice the “Superkweker 823” frequently !

The mother of this topper is a direct hen from Walter van der Meulen and is a daughter of “Crack 061” who is a real super breeder and is a granddaughter of “Friezin” (9th National Barcelona 6,909 p.) in also a very tough edition. The 58th National Barcelona is also a granddaughter of “Crack 061” and comes from the same coupling.
