Tonnie Kaspers – Markelo
Tonnie Kaspers lives in the beautiful Markelo in Twente, in the center of this beautiful village. Tonnie came into contact with the pigeon sport in Enschede by his father and uncle at the age of eight and nowadays he is one of the lucky few who owns plenty of space to practice his sport. There is more than enough room for a 35m loft and he has only used a small percentage of his backyard. But….though Tonnie Kaspers has a lot of meters pigeonlofts, the number of pigeons he keeps is limited.
When Tonnie decided (in 2012) to start racing only on marathon flights, there were two important pigeonfriends in his life who play a very important role in the excellent performance of Tonnie’s pigeons just a few years later. Dennis Borkent who gave him the push to race marathon flights and (!) who gave him the fabulous KWEKER 200 as a present and Jelle Jellema, his running- and pigeonmate, who helped him with the excellent Jellema’s from the basic strain/breedinglines.
Our protagonist has only been active on the overnight long distance with an average of 3 or less marathon flights per year untill 2018. But in the very succesful last season Tonnie raced a few more in order to prepare his pigeons for 2020…!! Last year, 2019 meant his international breakthrough…after his success at Agen ZLU (winning the 2nd National old birds & yearlings (2 pigeons in the first 10 classified International at one of the further distances in Europe!) every marathon fancier now knows Tonnie Kaspers.
International Agen 2019 was a very hard race, with only a few arrivals in France on the day of liberation. The next day Tonnie clocked two birds (an old bird and a yearling) with a speed of 850 mpm and 823 mpm and his name is written in capitals since than!
Because of his friendship with Jelle Jellema many good Jellema’s went to Markelo…..and the other way around! Jelle is succesful with Tonnie’s pigeons too!! Children from Jelle’s old/basic strain came to Tonnie:
